Patagonia 2015

In November, 2015, Bill Gette and Argentine guide Carol Passera, led 12 Mass Audubon travelers to the Patagonia wilds of Argentina. This ever-popular tour to the “end of the world” delivered dramatic scenery, unusual mammals, and good birding. The trip began at the famed Valdez Peninsula, where skuas and giant-petrels could be seen soaring with rare Southern Right Whales just off the coast. On the nearby beaches of Punta Tombo, thousands of nesting Magellanic Penguins were braying. The group walked in Los Glaciares National Park with impressive glaciers, some of the most spectacular scenery in all of South America and Andean Condors circling overhead. An exciting boat trip - cruising east though the Beagle Channel - gave the group good looks at Imperial and Rock Shags in their nesting colonies on the islands. Impressions and sightings are noted in the trip reports, but overall the group gave this tour “excellent” marks and would recommend it to anyone.
